Many beleieve the threat is biological such as a greatworldwide Flu Pandemic, the next big Nuclear War / WW III/ Biological War, what about the Large Hadron Collider when it finally starts blows us all to hell. Many say that our 2012 doomsday is being orchestrated by the discoveries in Nanotechnology. Who really knows?

All of what is happening is certainly a sign of human evolution. The world is changing everyday and nothing really makes sense. Magnetic Pole Shift, Crustal Pole Shift, Super Volcano (Yellowstone), The 2012 Ice Age, Global Warming. You might wonder if all this is what the Religious Apocalypse foretells. Some have said that the bible and many ancient prophecies include a great 2012 Nuclear Accident that will make Chernobyl look like a day at the fun park.

What about the dark predictions of the 2012 Rise of the Machines, The 2012 Zombie Virus? Many I speak to tell of a Zombie Genetic Modification from prescription drugs. Or is it all just a Time Travel Error.

The significance of this date in Mayanism stems from the ending of the current baktun cycle of the Maya calendar in 2012, which many believe will create a global "consciousness shift" and the beginning of a new age. Speculation about this date can be traced to the first edition of The Maya (1966) by Michael D. Coe, in which he suggested the date of December 24, 2011, as one on which the Maya believed "Armageddon would overtake the degenerate peoples of the world and all creation." This date became the subject of speculation by Frank Waters, who devotes two chapters to its interpretation, including discussion of an astrological chart for this date and its association with Hopi prophecies in Mexico Mystique (1975). The significance of the year 2012 (but not a specific day) was mentioned briefly by José Argüelles in The Transformative Vision (1975).

Waters' book inspired further speculation by John Major Jenkins in the mid-1980s, including revision of the date to one corresponding with the winter solstice in 2012. Interpretations of the date became the subject of further speculation by José Argüelles in The Mayan Factor (1987), promoted at the 1987 Harmonic Convergence. It received further elaboration in the Novelty theory of Terence McKenna. The supposed prediction of an astronomical conjunction of the black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy with the winter solstice Sun on December 21, 2012, referred to by John Major Jenkins in Galactic Alignment as having been predicted by the ancient Maya and others, is a much-anticipated event in Mayanism. Although Jenkins suggests that ancient Maya knowledge of this event was based on observations of the "dark rift" in the Milky Way as seen from Earth, others interpret it as evidence of knowledge imparted via ancient contact with extraterrestrial intelligence. The relevance of modern "dark rift" observations to Pre-Columbian and traditional Maya beliefs is strongly debated, and many academic archaeologists have been skeptical of all theories regarding extraterrestrial contact, but it is clear that the promotion of Mayanism through interest in 2012 doomsday scenarios is contributing to the evolution of religious syncretism in contemporary Maya communities. 2012 is predicted by some with New Age beliefs to be a great year of spiritual transformation (or alternatively an apocalypse). This is in keeping with an uncodified, eclectic belief system referred to as Mayanism whose roots can be found in 16th century Christian eschatology affecting Maya texts such as the Popol Vuh and the Books of Chilam Balam that were written down after the Spanish Conquest. There is disagreement among believers whether 2012 will see an end of civilization or whether humanity will be elevated to a "higher" level. . This latter belief represents a contemporary manifestation of models for human progress that derive from 19th century unilineal evolution.

Many esoteric sources interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21 by the most widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order.

Several authors have published works which suspect that a major, world-changing event will take place in 2012:

The 1997 book The Bible Code by Michael Drosnin suggests that, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code, an asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth. Drosnin also states in his book that the Bible code only predicts possibilities.

The 2006 book 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck discusses theories of a possible global awakening to psychic connection by the year 2012, creating a noosphere.

Riley Martin asserts that Biaviian aliens will allow passage aboard their 'Great Mother Ship' when the Earth is 'transformed' in 2012.
Terence McKenna's numerological novelty theory suggests a point of singularity in which humankind will go through a great shift in consciousness.

Dannion Brinkley, in his 2007 book, Secrets of the Light, a follow-up to his 1995 bestseller Saved by the Light, predicts "that by the year 2012 humanity will experience unprecedented mental and spiritual transformations, coinciding precisely with the Earth's passage through great physical upheaval" (Brinkley 96).

In the solar system, gravity causes the sun and planets to share the same plane of orbit. In the night sky, this plane is known as the ecliptic. The next alignment happens to coincide with the end of the Mayan Long Count calendar on the December solstice in 2012. Former software engineer John Major Jenkins is credited with the premise that the classical Mayans anticipated this conjunction and celebrated it as the harbinger of a profound spiritual transition for mankind.

New Age proponents of the Precession-alignment theory argue that, just as astrology uses the positions of stars and planets to predict the future, the Mayans plotted their calendars with the objective of preparing for significant world events.

Most World jurisdictions limit the freedom of speech in order to deter people from creating potentially dangerous panic situations, especially a false alarm (the classic example is shouting fire in a crowded theater, when in fact nothing is burning). But Does 2012 have a global panic implication?
