Ceramic plaque, 'Honey Aztec Sun Stone'

Angel Ceron presents a faithful replica of the Aztec calendar, known also as the "Sun Stone." According to pre-Hispanic beliefs, there have been a total of five suns, including the current one. According to legend, the previous four, together with humans, were destroyed by the gods' wrath. The calendar represents the fifth sun and tells the story of the past four and marks the changing of the seasons. The Aztecs (or "Mexica," as they called themselves) believed the sun struggled daily against the forces of darkness. They aided the sun through human sacrifices.

Wood relief panel, 'King of Gods'

Ketut Murdantha hand-carves a single piece of kepelan wood with attentive devotion as he evokes the image of Siwa accompanied by his lembu, or sacred white cow, and guarded by Barong - representing all that is good. Murdantha works the wood with admirable skill, conveying a rich diversity of textures to highlight the most minute details of this panel - such as Siwa's elaborate attire and even the patterns on the leaves. Magnificently detailed, Murdantha's portrayal of Siwa makes for a stunning addition to a refined setting. Siwa is considered to be a "king amongst Gods and Goddesses" - Siwa Nata Raja and he is usually portrayed with his lembu. Siwa's spiritual function is to destroy the negativity of the world and thus purify it. According to Balinese Hinduism, death is seen as Siwa preparing you for reincarnation - a new, and hopefully improved, life. Thus, his destructive power is viewed to be strictly spiritual and positive. But if a person's karmas (action) have been bad, Siwa will punish accordingly. This item is individually carved by hand and belongs to a special collection created by the artist.

Ceramic figurine, 'Lord of Darkness'

Related with the realm of darkness, Xiuhtecutli confronts the sun god Tonatiuh each evening. Angel Ceron faithfully recreates the Aztec deity as a standard bearer. Intricate details define his sandals, breechclout and headdress in a beautiful replica of Mexico's pre-Hispanic art. Cer?n gives the piece a rustic finish to resemble an archeological treasure.

Ceramic figurine, 'Serpent Skirt'

A skeletal figure, she stands with her hands raised in the posture of women who die in childbirth. Angel Ceron sculpts the image of Coatlicue, "She of the serpent skirt." The Mexica earth goddess and mother of the gods, her image bears the symbol "Eight Malinalli, or "grass." Her son Huitzilopochtli, the sun god and god of war, defended her from the powers of the night.

Bronze sculpture, 'Sublime Buddha'

Cast in bronze, Buddha's presence conveys a welcoming sense of inner-peace. He is regarded as the Great Teacher, for he demonstrated how mortals could attain the highest knowledge and thus achieve enlightenment by their own efforts. In so doing, he raised the worth of humans. Sukaenah sculpts this vivid image of Buddha with sublime detail featuring an antique finish. This hand-crafted product may present miniscule pores that are imprinted from the casting process. Sculpture is hollow.

'Wisnu with Pijer,' statuette

Hand-carved to exquisite perfection, this extraordinary crocodile wood statuette by Nyoman Subrata evokes the image of Lord Wisnu, the sustainer of life. Inspired by legends, myths, and religious beliefs, Subrata here depicts Wisnu holding a pijer, a coconut sprout that also symbolizes life. Wisnu's ultimate service to humanity is his ability to incarnate as an Avatar, or God-ma - appearing in troubled times to save the world by realigning it to the divine. Many Hindu deities are portrayed with four arms to enhance their graceful aspect, allowing them to carry their symbolic objects and underscore their relationship between the earthly and celestial domains.

Celadon ceramic statuette, 'Great Ganesha'

Lord Ganesha assumes a position of meditation, his voluptuous body portrayed in ceramic. The son of Shiva and Parvati, he is revered in the Hindu pantheon as the god of auspiciousness. He is portrayed with the head of an elephant, one tusk and four hands. Thatsanee and Ramphan sculpt the elegant figure in clay. Using the celadon technique, they color its smooth jade contours with a delightfully crackled glaze.

Wood sculpture, 'Ewe Fertility Doll'

Kwame Frimpong replicates the art of the Ewe people from Ghana as he sculpts this doll from sese wood. Holding a protective hand over her belly, this fertility doll is usually put under a couple's mattress to ensure conception.
